NY Times: "Even for Ad Agencies, High-Priced Consumption Is Out"

"CANNES — It is still possible to order a €70 sole meunière or a €12 bottle of Evian on a hotel terrace here. But as advertising professionals gathered last week for an international awards show and trade conference, they were taking their lead from recession-hit consumers and hunting for bargains."

WIRED: Dell is Making Money on Twitter"

Recently we posted about the DellSwarm in Singapore where people can bid down the price of a particular Dell model. They used Twitter to update followers on the status.

I just ran across an article on Wired about how Dell made USD3 million using Twitter. Or rather, it used twitter to update some 600,000 followers about deals that they have for refurbished machines. These followers have purchased some USD 3million dollars worth of stuff. See here.

BTW... Last week's Web Wednesday was awesome. Thanks to all those who attended to make it our biggest Web Wednesday ever. Once we get ourselves free from our day jobs, we will update with pictures and stuff.

REMINDER - TONIGHT 6pm - WEB WEDNESDAY at BALACLAVA!

Just a quick reminder given all that is going on this week.  Web Wednesday is TONIGHT, Wednesday, the 10th of June (the last day of AdTech).  Remember that we are also at a new location this month – BALACLAVA’s at the Suntec Convention Centre.  A NEW TIME - 6pm till 8:30pm!

chrisdobson170.jpgThe speaker this month all the way from London is Chris Dobson, Executive VP, Global Ad Sales for BBC Worldwide and BBC.com.  Chris will be sharing his insights on 'Digital Media Business Models – on the critical list?'   Chris used to run global adsales at MSN and is ex-MTV so he has some pretty interesting perspectives having been on the portal side and now back to the publisher side.  Given what the BBC.com is doing with video in the UK (their video on demand platform uses something like 7% of all UK traffic) I am sure that he can also share some interesting things about video online.

This month our sponsor, the BBC.com will be providing you the first drink of the evening.  The event is at Balaclava at the Suntec convention centre so it is right next to AdTech.  Head on over after the last session.  The party starts at 6pm!

The BBC.com will also be giving away 3 of the new super slim iPod Shuffles at the event, so make sure that you leave your card at the door.

This is going to be a great event- make sure that you don’t miss it!

See you TONIGHT at 6pm at Balaclava!
